#CLOPAY GARAGE DOOR KEYED LOCK SET INSTALLATION 4125480 MANUAL#
The link posted above is one where you can use a manual key to lock/unlock the door from the exterior of the garage, these tabs would slide into the exact same slots in the track as the L Bracket would. This is a manual lock, it is not accessible from outside, so you would slide them over once inside and would have to leave through another doorway of the home. The L bracket slides into a notch cut out of the center of the wheel track, that notch is machines into the track before installation (I’ve never seen one without it). It’s an L bracket that is attached to the garage door interior panel, and when the door is closed completely down you slide the L bracket to the right or left to create a deadbolt type situation. There are other types, like my manual locks, which are the same as another commenter stated. OP, normally most garage doors have these built into them, or at least installed when the garage door is installed (I’m talking specifics about the red linkage shown in the photos. So you have two choices: (1) get a lock, or (2) repair or replace your opener and leave the door engaged to it.īump this up, because this link clearly shows the linkage in red, and how it attaches to the door. But since you've disconnected the garage door opener and there is no lock the door can be manually opened from inside or outside. Your problem is you have a door that doesn't have a lock because it was normally connected to the garage door opener. This was because garage door openers effectively lock the door since the door can't be manually moved when it is connected to the drive chain or belt of the opener.
The locking mechanism would have to be manually locked and unlocked with a knob or lever and could be set to require a key to open from the outside.ĪS motorized garage door openers became popular fewer and fewer people put locks on garage doors and those that had locks on their door disabled, or removed, the locks.

Those that worried at all about security would install a locking mechanism on their garage door and many garage doors were sold with factory installed locking mechanism. Once upon a time, many decades ago, almost no one had a motorized garage door.
